Linked Products

required extras added by quantity rules

I treat the required extra as a cart rule, not a recommendation the customer might overlook when quantity changes.

The challenge

Some purchases require another item once the order reaches a particular quantity. The merchant needed this relationship to be part of the cart rules instead of relying on a customer to remember the extra product.

The approach

A WooCommerce extension links catalogue products and applies a quantity threshold. The linked item is added as a required part of the purchase when that rule is met.

The project, in detail

The images show the interface and its context. Captions distinguish project archives from current-site views.

Rules attached to a product

Administration exposes the related product and the quantity dependency together. The merchant chooses an existing catalogue item rather than maintaining a second, disconnected representation of the same product.

Automatic cart composition

The threshold determines when the additional product is inserted. Required linked items cannot be removed manually from the basket while they form part of the configured purchase.

A narrow plugin boundary

The extension handles product relationships and cart behaviour within WooCommerce. Compatibility with the base commerce system was part of the task, keeping the implementation focused on this one business rule.
