The challenge
MoyChay, a retailer of Chinese tea, was considering moving its store to WordPress and WooCommerce. Before a full rebuild, the project needed to explore the new platform and define how it would exchange data with the existing custom system.
The approach
I worked on a WordPress and WooCommerce test environment for the proposed migration. I prepared a technical specification for the rebuild and a separate API specification for exchanging data with the existing system. The engagement ended after discovery and planning, before a production migration.
The project, in detail
The images show the interface and its context. Captions distinguish project archives from current-site views.
Try the platform before committing to a rebuild
The client was considering WooCommerce rather than asking for a small change to its current store. I worked on a test environment so the proposed platform could be explored before production development.
Plan the connection to the existing system
A storefront migration also needs a plan for data exchange. I prepared a separate API specification alongside the full-rebuild specification. These were planning deliverables; I do not present the current public store as my implementation.
The outcome
WordPress and WooCommerce test environment
Full-rebuild technical specification
API data-exchange specification
Details of MoyChay
What part of commerce did this involve?
A test store and API specification explored a WooCommerce migration that did not proceed to production with the original team.
